Welcome to

The Word of the Day is: zibo (Sometime spelled Sibo)

zibo N. Inanimate PL. ziboal

A River, A flowing body of water

Pronunciation: Two Syllables: Pronunciation can vary from speaker to speaker

si-bō

The emphasis is on the first syllable. In most cases, the word zibo is used in referance to a river or when the river is being spoken of as a possession:
Example:
Panaôbskai zibo or The Penobscot's River

Lolo zibo or Lolo's river ( Lolo being a man who once lived on that strech of river)

When the river is refered to by name, instead of zibo, the syllable -tegw or -tegok is added to the end of the word.
Examples:
Koattegw : Koa =Pine -tegw=river
for the Pine river

Gicitegw : Gici = great or big -tegw=river
For the Big River (St. Larence River)

Gwenitegw : Gweni = long -tegw=river
The long river (The Conneticut River, a corruption of Gwenitegw)

There are exceptions of course.
